It all started back in early 2000 when a few barefoot surfers went seeking a strong brew to power them through their day. With an old coffee machine out the back of their surf shop they started serving cups to their mates and local community all based on a koha payment system.

With a little curiosity and a touch of kiwi ingenuity, Tony and Bobo decided they would have a crack at creating their own coffee blend. Armed with an old roaster, a weed killer blow torch and some found parts they soon began to see some consistent results. The crowd started growing and the hole in the wall down Volcom Lane started drawing a consistent flow of locals and tourists alike.

‘The Book Deal’ was an extension of the Koha policy, a payment method based on honesty and loyalty, and also handy for the surfers that rolled up without their wallets.

We have since grown from those humble beginnings to establish 12 locations nationwide, and still scoping the next spot.


Each coffee shop has organically developed its own feel and flavour thanks to the staff and community that call it home. Raglan Roast has an incredibly diverse loyal following and we are stoked to provide a space to facilitate genuine generosity, collaboration and sharing, our community are one epic bunch.

A lot has changed since since the early days, but a lot also hasn't, the fundamentals of what makes Raglan Roast unique have remained; offering you tasty, quality coffee with speed and at an honest price that will take you back in time.

OUR COFFEE

SMALL BATCH ROASTED DAILY

Over the years we have developed our own unique blends and roasting methods, including our custom built small batch roasters. We are now lovingly roasting from several locations between Raglan and Hamilton with a hands on, small batch process to ensure the best flavour in every cup. Our green beans come from all around the world and are sourced from Fair Trade Certified origins where the fair wages and working conditions of our growers are treated with the same importance as the flavour.
