Let’s Talk About What’s Brewing Behind the Scenes
You're about to pay a little more for your coffee, but let’s take a quick break to talk about the true cost of coffee, why it’s needed, and how we’re investing in the future of your favourite brew.
At Raglan Roast, we’ve held the line on pricing for as long as we could (after all, things move a little slower on Raglan time). While a lot of others raised their prices earlier, we bought ourselves some breathing room by locking in long-term contracts and soaking up rising costs behind the scenes. Why? Because we believe coffee should stay accessible. Your daily brew should be just that — daily, not a rare luxury. But after a year of rising costs across nearly every part of the supply chain, we’ve hit a point where we need to make a small adjustment. This isn’t about passing every cost straight onto you. It’s about setting prices that reflect the long game, and we want you right here with us.
The C-Price, Explained Simply
The C-Price (short for “Coffee Price”) is the global market price for green Arabica coffee—think of it like the stock market, but for beans. It rises and falls based on supply, demand, weather events, politics, and global trade. And lately, it’s been on a wild ride—droughts, frosts in Brazil, shipping delays, and speculation have all sent prices soaring. In the past six months alone, the C-Price has risen over 77%. But we’re not adjusting prices just because the market’s high today. Markets fluctuate—always have, always will. Our pricing reflects where we believe coffee will settle long-term. It’s about sustainability—for us, for the farmers, and for your daily brew.
Why Coffee’s Been Undervalued for Too Long
Let’s zoom out a little. Coffee—this humble, delicious drink we all love—has historically been undervalued. Think about it: Coffee is a natural product, grown by hand, often in tough conditions, requiring years of expertise passed down through generations of farmers. Then, it’s harvested (mostly by hand), sorted, processed, transported halfway across the world, roasted carefully by skilled humans, and packed to preserve freshness. All of that work. All of those hands. All of that expertise. Yet, it’s still been a pretty affordable luxury, ritual and routine for most of us. When you compare it to what you’re willing to pay for a beer or wine at your local pub, how does coffee stack up?
What We’ve Been Doing to Hold the Line
Over the past year, we’ve absorbed rising costs at every step: Green coffee prices, shipping and import costs, higher energy costs for roasting and production, and wage increases to support our local teams. We’ve looked inward first — tightening operations, buying smarter, minimising waste, rather than passing costs onto you immediately. We’ve held our pricing steady while others adjusted. But to continue delivering the quality, service, and sustainability you expect (and that we demand of ourselves), we now need to make a small change.
What This Means for Coffee Prices
Yep, prices are going up, and honestly, they need to. Just like you’ll expect to pay more at the pump when oil prices spike, the same thing has been happening behind the scenes in coffee, from green beans at origin to the cost of running local cafes. Over the past year (and longer), we’ve done everything we can to absorb these rising costs without raising prices. We held off while many others raised theirs—not because we’re immune to the same pressures, but because we believe coffee should stay accessible. It’s part of our DNA: great coffee, every day, for everyone.
And it’s not just words—it’s how we’re built.
Not About Today’s Spike, But About Tomorrow’s Sustainability
In short, this price adjustment is all about keeping coffee accessible, sustainable, and high-quality for the long run. By making this small change, we’re ensuring that every cup supports farmers, our team, and the future of your daily brew. We believe in the social capital of your local coffee shop. It’s not just about a quick, tasty, and affordable cup — it’s about community and connection. From friendly chats with neighbours to grassroots initiatives, our cafes are places where relationships are built and stories are shared. We’re proud of the community we’ve created and are committed to keeping that sense of connection alive for years to come.
Thanks for being part of our journey — your support means everything as we continue to bring you the best coffee, every day.
